Dear Sir

Seth Smith of this place has filled the office of Indian Agent during the past year & he also had this office for several years quite recently- and for aught I know has filled the office faithfully- But believing as I do that the offices should be distributed among the people, that when an office of this kind has been held by one man as long as Smith has had this- then I think that the office should be given to another if requested. Mr. Isaac Bearce of Meddybemps is an applicant for this office of Indian agent and should there be a removal of Smith I hope that you will use your influence to have Bearce appointed to fill his place. I think that he would fill the office well & be faithful to its duties
