as it will be a great pleasure to give my poor services to my Country & native State. without any other reward than knowing I have done all in my power to aid in putting down treason & rebellion - for the first time in my life that I ever wished I was well skilled in military matters if I was, should be in the fight. I however may be as it is, when all better men are taken up, then I am ready.
The appointment I was seeking at Washington has not yet been made when they will be is quite uncertain, if [?], they seem to act upon the principle that the country can be saved only, by keeping Loco Focos or quasi secessionists in office
