To all to whom these Presents may come,
Greeting:

Be it Known, That the Honorable Thomas Fillebrown, of Winthrop, in our County of Kennebec; Simon Nowell, Esqr, of Kennebunk Port, in our county of York; the Honorable Joseph Prime of Berwick, in our County of York; the Honorable James C. Churchill of Portland, in our County of Cumberland; Ebenezer Farley, Esqr, of New Castle, in our county of Lincoln; the Honorable John S. Kimball, of Belfast, in our county of Waldo; the Honorable Joseph Southwick of Hallowell, in our county of Kennebec; the Honorable Levi Hubbard, of Paris, in our County of Oxford; and the Honorable John Moor, of Anson in our County of Somerset, were, on the third day of November now current, chosen in conformity with the existing laws, Electors of President and Vice President of the United States of America, for the State of Maine; said Electors not being Senators or Representatives in Congress, and not to our Knowledge holding any Office of trust or profit under said United States: And they are duly authorised [authorized] to give in their votes at Portland, on Wednesday the third day of December next, for one person to be President, and for one other person to be Vice President of the United States for the term of four years, commencing with the fourth day of March next: And it[?] on their assembling at said Portland for the purpose aforesaid, if that any of the above mentioned Electors are absent from whatever cause, those who shall be there assembled, are authorised [authorized] to fill all such vacancies, by the votes of the majority of the electors present, by a choice from the citizens of the State at large; and the persons so elected shall have the same authority in giving their votes for President and Vice President as the Electors whose names are above written.
Given under the seal of the State, at Portland, this Twenty second day of November, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight; and in the fifty third year of the Independence of the United States of America.
