State of Maine.

To all Persons to whom these Presents shall come

Greeting:

Whereas, before our Court of Common Pleas, begun and held at Alfred, within and for the County of York, on the third Tuesday of October, being the twenty first day of said month, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight: Benjamin Downing Jun. of Kennebunk Port, in our said county of York, husbandman, was convicted of the Crime of Assault and Battery, and thereupon by our said Court was sentenced to be punished by imprisonment for the term of ten days, in the common gaol in Alfred in said County, and afterwards to recognize himself as principal in the sum of two hundred dollars, with two sureties in the sum of one hundred dollars each, to keep the peace &c. for the term of five years; and he the said Benjamin Downing Jun. has humbly supplicated Us for mercy.

Now Know Ye, That, upon full consideration of the premises, We do hereby remit to him the said Benjamin Downing Jun. that part of the punishment aforesaid, which yet remains to be executed, and grant to him the said Benjamin Downing Jun. a full and free Pardon of the Crime aforesaid; of which all our Judges, Justices, Magistrates, and Officers of every denomination are to take notice.

Witness, Enoch Lincoln, our Governor, with the advice and consent of our Council, and our seal hereunto affixed, at Portland, the twenty ninth day of June, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine: and in the fifty third year of the Independence of the United States of America.
