The following written message from the Governor was received by the Secretary of State. [Message respecting Penobscot Indians] “To the Senate and House of Representatives - I have received from the agents of the Penobscot tribe of Indians a communication suggesting sundry grievances, which in their opinion, ought to be remedied, with communication I submit to the Legislature for their consideration. The Agents, together with the Lieutenant Governor of the tribe, being now at the seat of Government, will give such particular information as will enable the Legislature more fully to understand the extent of their grievances and the practicality of providing a remedy. I also lay before the two houses the account of the said Agents for services performed in the execution of their trust. [Jurisdiction of sites for Lighthouses] Ordered that Messrs O’Brien and Dennett, with such as the House may join be a committee to take into consideration the expediency of amending an Act to cede to the United States the jurisdiction of sites for Light Houses passed March 19, 1821 - with leave to report by bill or otherwise - Sent down for concurrence came up concurred - and Messrs Cobb, Tucker and Bonny were joined on the part of the House.
