My Dear Governor
I understand there is
to be a Brigade Surgeon appointed in this state. I dont exactly know by whom the appointment is to be made, but have an idea that you will at least have some voice as to the officer -- Doctor McRuer of this city is anxious for the place. I think him at least equal to any Surgeon in the state if not superior, and admirably fitted for such a situation. I trust you will use your influence in favor.
