Ordered that the committee on internal improvements be instructed to inquire what appropriations or other measures by this State, are necessary to complete the opening & making over the States land, the road already located from the town of Baring till it intersects the road leading Southerly from Houlton plantation, near the Baskahegan stream – read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.

Ordered that the committee on Literature & Literary Institutions be instructed to inquire what measures are proper to be adopted by the Legislature to secure the establishment of a National Astronomical Observatory at Brunswick in this State. read and passed. Sent up for concurrence.

Ordered that the committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire if any alterations are necessary as respects cost in criminal prosecutions – read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.

Ordered that the committee on literature & literary institutions be instructed to inquire into the expediency of adopting measures to procure such books & other publications as may enable members of the Legislature, & other persons connected with the government of this State to obtain at any time necessary information in relation to any subject upon which they may be called upon to act in the discharge of their official duties: and to lay the foundation of a State library for that purpose. read & passed.
