Messrs Robinson of Gardiner - Blaney of Bristol and - Snith of Westbrook had leave of absence after today.
Bill to establish the Penobscot Boom Corporation was read a 3d time amended, and passed to be engrossed. Sent up for concurrence.
The Conferees appointed by this House upon the subject of the disagreeing votes of the two Houses on the 23d & 24th instant on the amendment of the Senate to the Bill entitled an act in addition to the several acts now in force to organize, govern & discipline the Militia of this State, Reported, That they had met the Conferees on the part of the Senate and conferred freely on the subject committed, and come to no agreement thereon - the Conferees on the part of the House therefore recommended to this House to adhere to their vote of the 23d inst - read & accepted and the House adhered accordingly
An order came from the Senate directing the Secretary of State to notify Richard Sawtell Esquire that he has been duly elected by a joint ballot of both Branches of the Legislature a Senator for the County of Somerset to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of Jonas Parlin Junr Esquire for concurrence, and the House concurred.
Bill additional to an act to promote the Sale & settlement of the public lands, was read a 1st & 2d time & 3 oclock this afternoon assigned for a 3d reading.
The Committee to consider the expediency of granting lands to those towns who have not received grants from Massachusetts - reported that it is inexpedient to legislate upon that subject - The report accepted in Senate came down for concurrence and the House concurred.
