A committee, consisting of Messrs Bourne of Kennebunk, Howard of Brownfield, Mann of Gorham, Burnham of Orland and Morse of Wilton, was appointed to receive, sort & count the votes for a Clerk; and on counting the same it appeared the whole number given in was One hundred & thirty two - necessary to constitute an election sixty seven - that [James Loring Child of Alna(double underlined)] had One hundred & twenty nine, and he was declared elected - and being present he signified his acceptance, expressed his acknowledgements to the House, and then took and subscribed the following Oath of office, which was administered to him by Jacob Mitchell Esqr a Justice of the Peace for the County of Cumberland - viz,

" I James Loring Child do solemnly swear that I will faithfully discharge to the best of my abilities the duties incumbent upon me as Clerk of the House of Representatives of the State of Maine for the current political year - so help me GOD.

The Clerk being thus duly qualified, the Chairman retired from the desk, and left the Clerk to preside during the further or organization of the House

The convention met according to adjournment.

The convention resumed the consideration of the report of the committee appointed on Thursday last to receive & examine the credentials of the members who appear to be duly returned and on motion, the report was accepted as amended by inserting in the list of members the name of Joseph C Small Albert Smith and Simeon Fowler Junior.
