The committee to whom was referred an Order of the 8th inst. directing them to again with some suitable person to perform the duties of an Assistant Clerk &c, reported, that they had agreed with Reuben Mitchell of Portland to perform said duties for the compensation fixed by law - and the report was read and accepted, and Mr Mitchell entered upon the duties accordingly.

The committee to whom was referred an Order of the 8th inst. directing them to agree with some suitable person to perform the duties of an Assistant Clerk &c, reported, that they had agreed with Reuben[underlined] Mitchell[underlined] of Portland to perform said duties for the compensation fixed by law - and the report was read and accepted, and Mr Mitchell entered upon the duties accordingly.

Remonstrances of John King & sixty four others - - of Abiel Longfellow & twenty seven others - against the right of Moses Peaslee, returned as a member from the town of Whitefield, to hold a seat in this House, were severally read and referred to the Committee on Elections.

Adjourned until Afternoon.
