Our picket line advansed P.M. and the rebs fell back with but little resistense. Our line advansed to the hill and went to throwing up works, when the rebs advansed upon us in line of battle and drove over pickets back on the works. Griffin's battery was planted in our regt and when thair line came in sight the battery and rifles all opned at once, and they thought best to fall back. Lieut Walker was the only man struck in our regt and he was struck in the face slighty. Thair was sharp skirmishing all the P.M. but did not advance again. Clear weather P.M. but rained in the night
31st A rainy morning. We were relieved in the morning and marched to the left a mile. About noon we stoped in a field and began to cook our coffee. Then the skirmishing began, we fell in and double-quicked down into the woods to support the 3d division.
