The House assigned Thursday at 10 o clock to come to the choice of two persons as members of the Committee to examine into the affairs of the State Prison as provided by a Resolve passed the present session.
Petition of William Newhall & al praying for a law to prevent the destruction of Pickerel in Madamac Long Pond in Washington, was read & referred to Messrs Rowell of Jefferson, White of Montville and Rideout of Cumberland
Bill - to prevent the destruction of Moose, Deer & Carraboo [caribou] came down, the Senate adhering to their vote refusing the Bill a passage - The House insist upon their vote passing the same to be engrossed, propose a conference and appoint as Conferees Messrs Vance of Baring, Kidder of Milburn & Herrick of Lewiston.
Bill - an additional act respecting Clerks of the Judicial Courts laid on the table by Mr Kent of Bangor, was read 1st & 2d time and tomorrow at 10 o clock assigned for a 3d reading.
Bill - authorizing the Selectmen & Assessors of Towns & plantations to purchase books, was read a third time & indefinitely postponed.
Bill - an additional Resolve to encourage & aid the publication of a statistical view & Map of the State, was read a second time & passed to be engrossed in concurrence with the Senate.
An order came from the Senate for concurrence, instructing Messrs Page & Gardner with such as the House may join to consider what compensation ought to be allowed the Chaplains,
