Governor,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your favor of the 23d inst. in reference to the promotion of officers in Company "K" of the 20th Regt.
We have been on the point of recommending Lt. Nichols once or twice for the captaincy of that Company, but an unfortunate occurrence growing out of drinking intoxicating liquor to excess
