Nichols or Lt. Fuller for promotion. If they prove themselves fit, in the respect referred to, they will be recommended at the earliest moment.

I think there will be some other changes suggested before long.

Dr. Shaw is giving the best of satisfaction - few surgeons within my observation have been so faithful & have won the general good will of the Brigade, to the degree he has.

I trust it may be convenient to you without embarrassment, to promote him.

I do not expect to be able to resume command of the Regt. for a long time at least - but I never lose sight of its interests. I sincerely hope its ranks so honorably thinned may be
