Saturday, January 21, 1832.
Additional Resolves relating to the North Eastern Boundary came up; the House adhering to their vote passing said Resolves to be engrossed, and proposing a Conference and appointing Messrs Williams, Fessenden, and Clifford, Conferees on the part of the House. The Senate concur the House in the proposition for a conference, and appoint as Conferee, in their part Messrs Ingalls, Thayer, and Keith.
In Convention. Agreeably to assignment, the two Houses of the Legislature met in Convention for the purpose of electing a Senator to supply the vacancy occasioned by the death of the Hon. Benjamin Pike, Senator from York District. Messrs Scammon and Lithgow of the Senate, and Messrs Dane, Lord of South Berwick, and Chadbourne of Baldwin of the House were appointed a committee to receive, sort, and count the votes; who, having attended to the duty assigned them, reported that the whole number of votes given in was 145. Necessary to a choice - 73. Horace Porter has 78. who was declared duly elected, and the Convention separated.
In Senate.
On motion of Mr. Meqquier, Ordered, that the Secretary of the Senate notify Horace Porter, that he has been Constitutionally elected a Senator, and request his immediate attendance at the Senate Board.
