208 [order concerning adjournment] of the Legislature have passed upon all the public business before them and are now ready to adjourn without day and inquire if he has any further communication to make to them. Sent down for concurrence. Concurred and Messrs. Clark of Hallowell, Cobb of Durham, Baldwin of Mercer, Jewett of Bowdoinham and Nance of Baring were joined.
[Message concerning adjournment] On motion by Mr. Parsons, Ordered that when the Senate next adjourn, they adjourn without day and a message was sent to the House of Representative informing them thereof and requesting their concurrence.
[Resolve passed for preservation of the State House] Mr. Page from the Committee on Engrossed Bills reported to be truly copied " Resolve providing for the preservation of the State House and property belonging to the State and for other purposes and the same was, on motion, laid on the table.
[Order for note of thanks to the President] On motion by Mr. Page, Ordered that the thanks of the Senate be presented to the Hon. Nathan Cutler, for the ability, promptitude and impartiality which has characterized the discharge of his official duties as presiding officer of this Board. This order having been read from the chair by the Secretary and unanimously passed.
The President having resumed the Chair addressed the Senate as follows
[Answer of the President] Gentlemen of the Senate, I thank you for the kind sense you have been pleased to express of my endeavours in the discharge of the official duty assigned me, communicated in terms so obliging, and coming from one so much entitled to respect. Your generous disposition to support me, manifested on all occasions through the labors of the session, demands my most respectful acknowledgments, which I most willingly pay you.
