Mr Megquier announced to the Senate that Mr Littlefield, the Secretary, was indisposed and unable to attend to his duties; therefore ordered that the Senate proceed to the choice of Secretary pro tem. Messrs. Goodwin, Lithgow, and Eastman were appointed a committee to receive, sort, and count the votes for Secretary pro tem, who, having attended to the duties assigned to them reported that the whole number of votes was ---- 19. all of which were for William Trafton. William Trafton was then declared duly elected, and took and subscribed the oaths required by the Constitution, before James L. Child, esq. authorized by Dedimus Potestatem, in presence of the Senate.
On motion of Mr Megquier, ordered, that a message be sent to the House of Representatives, informing them, that, in consequence of the indisposition of Mr Littlefield, the Secretary, William Trafton is elected Secretary, pro tem, which message was delivered by Mr Megquier.
