71 the 16th instant, relating to the vacancy from Wiscasset and the same was amended and passed.

On motion of Mr Dummer. Ordered That the Committee on Turnpikes, Bridges and Canals be instructed to to enquire into the proceedings of the Kennebec Boom Corporation, whether said Corporation is not at this time exercising important powers injurious to the public and not granted by the act of Incorporation, and whether the Legislature under the authority of the seventh section of said Acts, should not immediately restrain or annul the powers and privileges granted them by said Act - sent up for concurrence -

On motion of Mr. Bronson. Ordered, That the Committee on Literary Institutions be instructed to inquire into the expediency of requiring of all Literary Institutions applying for aid from the State, who have previously received aid from the same, a correct statement of their funds - the manner in which previous donations have been expended or vested, also the number of the instructors - the price of tuition and the number of students who may have received instruction at such institution the year proceeding such application and report by Resolve or otherwise - sent up for concurrence -

Ordered that the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to consider the expediency of revising the law abolishing imprisonment of honest debtors for debt, passed March 31. 1831. and of rendering the same as simple and intelligible as may be - sent up for concurrence.

On motion of Mr Clark. Ordered that Messrs. Clark of Hallowell, Swett of Hollis and Hall of Frankfort with such as the senate may join be a committee to inquire what alternations are needed in the several
