Dear Genl.

I send you an account which I tried to make brief; but as I have no notion that you intend to make use of it verbatim, I wrote it rather freely. Facts are given, suitable for a statistical report: those that belongs to the eulogist are not—intentionally at least—brought in.

Copies of the commendating official papers I will forward if they are necessary. I hate to do it.
