�24 I am on fatiuge duty. and had to go and help git some wood I was in quarters in the afternoon wrote a letter to a friend in Brunswick. May 3rd I am on guard to day. and it is a beautiful day. the sun shines warm and pleasant. the trees are leaving out fast and looks very nice. the birds are singing gaily and seem to all be happy. but alas war is reigning through the land and all is confusion.
