Agreeably to assignment the two branches of the Legislature met in convention in the Representatives Hall for the purpose of electing a Senator to fill the vacancy in the Eight Senatorial District. Messrs. Rogers and Smith of the Senate Lake of Bucksport Bronson of Anson and Allen of Lubec of the House, were appointed a committee to receive sort and count the votes therefor who having attended to the duty assigned them report the following statements of facts - that Anson G. Chandler had thirty four votes - Moses Fuller had nine votes and there were one Hundred and Forty Six Blanks which report was read and accepted.
