In Convention.
Agreeably to assignment the two Branches of the Legislature met in Convention for the purpose of electing seven Counsellors, and a Secretary of State.
Messrs. Davee, Hamlin and Bradbury of the Senate and Messrs. Smith of Westbrook, Webster Washburn, Chase and Phelps of the House were appointed a Committee to receive, sort and count the votes for Councillors.
Messrs Cobb and Warren of the Senate and Messrs Lord, Crosby and Small of the House were appointed a Committee to receive, sort and count the votes for a Secretary of State, who having attended to the duty assigned them, reported that the whole number of votes given in was 194 Necessary to constitute an election 98 Roscoe G. Greene has 124 Edward Russell " 68 Reul Williams " 1 James L. Child " 1 The President of the Convention then declared Roscoe G. Greene duly elected Secretary of State.
