Certificate of Discharge

I hereby Certify, That Alden Newbit [name handwritten] of Belmont [handwritten] Maine, a Private [handwritten] of Captain [blank] Company of [blank] [both phrases crossed out] in the Detachment commanded by Maj. Gen. Isaac Hodsdon [name is handwritten, then crossed out] Lt. James Dunning [handwritten above crossed out name] of the drafted Militia of Maine, was born in Hope [handwritten] in the State of Maine [handwritten] is aged 34 [handwritten] years 5 [handwritten] feet and 8 3/4 [handwritten] inches high, light [handwritten] complexion, blue [handwritten] eyes, dark [handwritten] hair, and by profession, when called into actual service by the State of Maine for the protection of its Northeastern Frontier, a Farmer. He was called into actual service by order of the Governor of Maine, and rendezvoused at Bangor [handwritten] Maine, on the eleventh [handwritten] day of March [handwritten] A.D. 1839, being drafted from Captain [crossed out] Lieut [written above Captain] John E. Wetherbee [illeg.character follows name] [handwritten] Company of Infantry [handwritten] in the first [handwritten] Regiment, Second [handwritten] Brigade, and Third [handwritten] Division of the Militia of Maine, and then residing at Belmont [handwritten] in said State; and having faithfully and honestly served the period required, is now entitled to an honorable discharge.

The above named Alden Newbit [name handwritten] has monthly pay due him from the eleventh [handwritten] day of March [handwritten] 1839, when last paid by [blank] to include this day; and he is also entitled to pay and subsistence for travel from his residence to the place of rendezvous, and from the place of discharge to his home, being [blank] miles, and whatever other allowances are authorized by law, to soldiers so discharged. He is also entitled to pay for clothing during the period of his service: or he has drawn the following articles of clothing, to wit: [blank] the pro rata excess, if any, to be deducted, or the deficiency, if any, to be paid for.

GIVEN in triplicate, at Bangor [handwritten] Maine, this twenty third [number handwritten] day of April [handwritten] A. D. 1839.
