I contracted so severe a [?] disease in the swamps of Chickahominy, that I have some fear I may not soon be able for active service in the field, which I should much regret, but if it be as I shall probably send in my resignation, unless I can be employed advantageously in some other position, until I get thoroughly [recruited?] I left Dr. Palmer and a Doct. Buzwell of VT with regiment, but Doct. B. was nearly sick--if there are to be 2nd Asst. Surgeon, appointed I think it should be done soon--Doct. Field of Bangor would like an appointment either as Surgeon or Asst., in case Doct. McRuer should return home--I think him competent
