Enclosed please find certificate of Capt. Sargent to the effect that this State owes Henry H. Haskell $16 for cooking for Co G 2nd Reg. Me.Vol. & duplicate Receipts of said Haskell--
Mr. H- has been put to a great deal of trouble in regard to this and I hope you will see your way clear to give it the "finale." If you cannot pay will you have the goodness to return this certificate and say where he can get his pay? You would also do me a favor by sending a few blank receipts.
Yours respectfully B. H. Mace
