A Committee consisting of Messrs. Woodman of Buxton Dunlap of Brunswick True of Montville Hastings of Robbinston and Eastman of Exeter was appointed to receive sort and count the votes for a Speaker - and on counting the same it appeared that the whole number of votes given in was one Hundred and Seventy Four - necessary to a choice Eighty Eight - Nathan Clifford had one hundred and twenty two - Reuel Washburn had forty seven Scattering five - and Nathan Clifford Esqr. of Newfield was declared elected

Mr. Jarvis of Ellsworth was charged with a Message to the Governor and Council informing them of the organization of the House by the election of Nathan Clifford Speaker and Asaph R. Nichols Clerk

Mr. Webster of Belfast was charged with a similar Message to the Senate

A Message was received from the Senate informing the House that the Senate had organized by the choice of Joseph Williamson President and William Trafton Secretary

On motion of Mr. Cilley of Thomaston Ordered that the Rules and Orders of the last House of Representatives be considered the Rules and Orders of this House until others are adopted
