Dear Sir
Lieut. George Brown of Company B 2d Regt Maine VM [volunteer militia] has not resigned as reported in the Whig by their correspondent F in Augusta and so there is no fight for my son Charles in that place
Lieut Brown has written me that he has not been exchanged yet and is at Annapolis doing nothing and he wishes to know if you can and will do [?] so he can be doing something. I suppose you cannot but I thought I would write for him
