[page 109] the kitchen. Dr. Butler: I object to that. You are not allowed to give such an answer as that. Q. As to the bathrooms; up to last year was or not their condition exceedingly filthy? A. Some times they would not be; depended altogether upon a persons taste about those things. Dr. Harlow and I never could agree about that at all. Q. Were they in-? A. The patients would use the bath tubs quite frequently the same as they would use the water-closet. I took two of the trustees in there one day to tell them about it, and two patients came along and used it the same as they would use the closet. Q. Was it common for the attendants, in clearing off the table, to empty the slops from the table into that bath tub? A. In the first hall, first on the mans side when the dining room was, they emptied them right into the bath tub. Q. Did you call the attention of the superintendent to that again and again? A. I told the attendant not to do it, and he said Dr. Harlow told him to do it the other way again, so I didnt do any thing more about it.
