Gen Hodsdon: Dear Sir,

My son Edward K. Spaulding of this city, enlisted into the V.S. Service with Capt. White the 29th of last Nov, and was mustered in at Augusta, thru 7th of Dec. He was attached to Company G, of the 2d Maine, and has been in that Regiment ever since.

For some reason, his name is not on the rolls in the possession of the city authorities; consequently, I am deprived of the relief I am entitled to. The object of this letter is to learn if his name is on the rolls of the Regiment, in your office; and if so, to obtain from you an official certificate to that effect; that will satisfy the Mayor and Authorities of the city, that Edward K. Spaulding has actually served in that Regiment, and that
