To His Excellency I.Washburn Jr. Governor of State of Maine

Hon. Sir, I beg leave to trespass upon your valuable time, by respectfully calling your attention to my case, which is as follows. On the 16th day of July ult., I transmitted a communication to General Hodsdon, (enclosed please find correct copy with endorsements thereon) asking his influence in procuring for me a Lieutenant's Commission, in one of the regiments forming in Maine, from which I have received no reply whatever, and fearing that it might have been miscarried, or in case he received it that he might consider the application addressed personally to him (which was not my intent) and in that case not feel at liberty to grant it. I have taken the liberty to address my request to you, respectfully referring you to my communication to him, as setting forth the reasons for my application, and to the endorsements thereon by the several parties (of which the three last have recently been added) hoping it may be found worthy of your favorable -over-
