�To the Legislature of the State of Maine

The undersigned females of the State of Maine, being deeply grieved at the passage of a resolve, at the late session of Congress, by the House of Representatives, whereby it was declared, "That no petition , memorial, resolution, or other paper, [?] the Abolition of Slavery in the District of Columbia, in any State of Territory in the U.S. in which it now exists, shall be received by this House, or entertained in any way whatsoever;" + believing said resolve to be an infringement of the Constitution of the U.S. + an abridgement of the freedom of speech, + of the right to petition, pray your honorable body to request the Representatives in Congress to use their utmost influence to have the same rescinded. _ We also pray that your petitioners may be heard before a committee of your honorable body by counsel.
