The House being called to order by Mr. Addams of Portland the Hon. Lothrop Lewis, the member returned from Gorham, was unanimously requested to act as Chairman until its constitutional organization.

A committee was then appointed, consisting of Messrs Adams of Portland, Ames of Bath, Dunlap of Brunswick, Moody of Kennebunk and Dunn of Poland to ascertain if a quorum of the House be present, who immediately reported than more than one half of the number returned as elected were in their seats.
