14 At Stonemans Switch

16th At twelve o'clock at night we wer called up and marched up onto the field and went to diging rifle pits and suposed we wer going to hold them that day but at four o'clock we was ordered to fall back from the field as quiets as possible and so we did, and moved across the river and stayed a short time then marched back to our old camp at Stonemans Switch and took a rest. Picket duty camp guard, drilling inspection, bathing, and keeping fire was the order of the day for a long time. 30th We started up the river on a recons-sense and stayed near Kelly's Ford. 31st Stay at the ford while the other two brigades was n east the river January 1st, 1863 We returned to camp awfull tired for they marched us to hard. We wer mustered for pay. We lay in camp here for a long time doing camp and picket duty and drilling. I was detated at one time to go to the woods and guard some wood that had been cut by our troops for government purposes.
