Having heard that a change may possibly be made in the office of Indian Agent for the Passamaquoddy Tribe, and that there may be a vacancy in that office, permit me to recommend Isaac Bearce of Meddybemps as a gentlemen well suited to fit that vacancy.  Having been intimately acquainted with Mr. Bearce for twelve years, I can confidently assure you that his activity, his generosity, his kindness of disposition, and his honesty of purpose qualify him exceedingly well for the office.  He has been pretty intimately acquainted with these Indians for many years, and is well qualified to treat their prejudices in a generous spirit, and to incite in them a habit of industry, and a desire for education.

Machias, Jan 15. 1858 Fred. A. Pike Esq. Ho[use] of Rep. Augusta. My Dear Sir,

Having heard that a change may possibly be made in the office of Indian Agent for the Passamaquoddy Tribe, and that there may be a vacancy in that office, permit me to recommend Isaac Bearce of Meddybemps as a gentleman well suited to fit that vacancy.

If there is an opportunity of placing Mr Bearce in this position, I wish you to understand, that so far as I am personally concerned, any effort you may make to bring it about, will be doing me a personal favor.

Yours very truly Geo.W. Dyer
