Would the officers of the militia in general, but pay
that attention to their duty, which, consistent with their com- mon avocations, they might very easily do, we should soon behold in our militia establishment, the most substantial security against all hostile attempts, foreign or domestic, whe- ther to enervate the laws, decry the administration, or to in- vade the sacred rights of our country.
