Mrs. Elizabeth Coatsworth Beston Nobleboro Maine

Dear Mrs. Beston: With delight we noticed the pre-publication announcement of ALICE-ALL-BY-HERSELF. A Damariscotta background interests us especially, in addition to the usual charm of your books.

For some time we have regretted that the Maine Author Collection boasts none of your books. Such a very faithful Maine resident we feel should be represented by at least one book. Perhaps you will want to inscribe a copy of ALICE-ALL-BY-HERSELF, since it is laid in Maine, for this exhibit of the works of Maine people.

Such generosity would be deeply appreciated, and the book itself, we feel certain, will be a lovely addition to any library.

We hope your summer is proving a pleasant one, and that it is much cooler in Nobleboro than it is in Augusta. Best wishes for the success of the new book!

Very truly yours,

MAINE STATE LIBRARY BY
