Friend Morrill,
Dear Sir I understand the Indian Agency for the Penobscot Tribe is about to be (or at least should be vacated) Of course as usual in such cases there will be any number of men good & true, willing to accept its "arduous duties", not being situated to aspire for that or any office for either pay or honor at present. I think so far as you may feel any desire to confide on my judgement in the matter it will not prove to be detrimental either for Indians or our party interests. I have heard of quite a number asking the appointment & should think every thing considered Mr. Purington [Purinton] would be as satisfactory as any that can be made.
He is a native of our town & has always been situated to be familliar [familiar] with them & will conduct all the business matters with a strict regard to the laws & prudent honest & business like, which is so important in all such situations. Yours truly
Moses Buck
