The expression of approbation you have been pleased to bestow on the manner in which the services of the Chair have been administered the present session, claims my most respectful acknowledgments; and the source whence that expression emanates adds not a little to its value. Next to the approbation of Heaven and my own conscience, I shall ever prize the favorable opinion of those possessing so much ability, intelligence and virtue. I must suppose it to be chiefly attributable to the generous aid & support I have so constantly experienced at your hands, if I have in any degree fulfilled your just expectations in the difficult and responsible station your partiality assigned me.

In bringing our public labors to a close, we ought not if we could, forbear adverting to the prosperity and happiness which so generally abound throughout our State and Country. What
