I noticed by the papers a few days ago since the arrival at New York of fifty thousand Enfield Rifles  & that a portion of them were intended for the State Maine.
  
If that is true I rially [really?] hope you will furnish my Regt[?] with that arm.[?] I suppose your an a[?] that quite a portion[?] of the rifles now in possession of the first rgt[?] taken were[?] taken from Companies now in my rgt[?] prior to our leaving Bangor & I would seen that are an entitled[] to the new rifles in p[?] or[?] to any other rgt.[?]

Dear Sir

I noticed by the papers a few days ago since the arrival at New York of fifty thousand Enfield Rifles & that a portion of them were intended for the State Maine.

If that is true I rially hope you will furnish my Regt[with that arm. I suppose you [?] arrange that quite a portion of the rifles now in possession of the first rgt were taken from Companies now in my rgt prior to our leaving Bangor & it would seem that we are an entitled to the new rifles in preference to any other rgt.

There are parties here that are very anxious to furnish nice knapsacks at a very few days
