The “existing circumstances” allowed so is, a strong prejudice of the officers against Dr.[?] Morrison[?], which would make[?] a [?] for him, however[?] faithful to give satisfaction I was not aware of any thing[?] of this kind or O[?] the[?] [?] have around you to [?] him as Surgeon for the 2d.  [?] it[?] is[?] my opinion that[?] Dr Morrison would be an excellent assistant I would want no better[?], and where [?] was a good Brigade Surgeon he would do very well as a Surgeon however I think Dr. Morrison had [?] nor accept the appointment of surgeon for the 2d Regt & I will do advice him

P.S. The “existing circumstances” alluded to is a strong prejudice of the officers against Dr. Morrison, which would make it impossible for him, however faithful, to give satisfaction. I was not aware of anything of this kind or I should not have allowed you to appoint him as Surgeon for the 2d. Still it is my opinion that Dr. Morrison would be an excellent assistant - I would want no better, and where [?] was a good Brigade Surgeon he would do very well as a Surgeon, however I think Dr. Morrison had better not accept the appointment of surgeon for the 2d Regt & I will so advise him.
