to our consciences and to our constituents: and that it will be perceived that all our deliberations and proceedings have been directed by an ardent desire to promote the public welfare.

If the session has been of more than usual length it should be in some measure attributable to the multiplicity of business that has come before us, arising from an increase of the wealth, population, enterprize [enterprise] and active industry of our State: and in no small degree to the ample, thorough, and, it is believed profitable investigation and discussion which have been given to many interesting and important subjects, as well of a general as of a local nature, that have been presented to our consideration. And it is with much satisfaction that I can bear witness to the great ability, assiduity[?] & faithfulness with which you, on your part have devoted yourselves to the performance of your public duties.

Gentlemen, the time for our separation has now arrived: and I beg you will carry with you to the bosom of your respective families and friends, my kindest and best wishes for your individual prosperity and happiness. May you long continue to enjoy the confidence and esteem of all around you, and may the smiles and approbation of Him, who presides over all the assemblies of men constantly attend you.
