Sir,

I have rec'd from Col Roberts of the 2nd Regiment the appointment of Qr [Quarter] Master as soon as Mr. Lord receives his discharge. It is not certain that he will get his discharge for some time to come, perhaps a month. If I could have a chance to raise a Company of the Regiment of Cavalry, I would come home & do it. I am willing & anxious to do something to help, but I must get enough to feed my children at home, which my present position will not do. Would you give me a chance to raise a company of the Cavalry? or in case you
