Dear Sir
I have resigned my position as Col. of the 2nd Rgt of Me. Vol. and my resignation has been accepted. My pecuniary troubles [?] absolutely necessary for me to return home and devote my time to my private business which is in a very sad condition. Justice to those at home dependent on me, has in a great measure induced me to take this step. Since receiving at your hands my commission as Col. of the 2nd Rgt. I have endeavored to the utmost of my ability to merit the confidence reposed in me, how well I have succeeded I am willing to let
