I Patrick Welch of lawful age on oath do testify and say that I had a conversation with Mr. James Landers some time last spring about the sale of one hundred bushels of oats by said Landers to Seth W. Smith. I asked Mr Landers how many oats he sold Smith & how much Smith paid for them. He replied "I sold Smith one hundred dollars worth of oats and received my pay for them", & that the receipt would show how much I received.
In the spring of 1857 I purchased some potatoes sold at auction, by Mr. Solomon B. Pool, and paid one dollar & seven cents per barrel. They were very poor potatoes & more than one half of these were rotten & not fit for use.

Washington [?] June 10th 1857 Personally appeared Patrick Welch & made oath to the truth of the above affidavit by him subscribed, before me.
