My Dear Governor
I think there "will not be much of a shower." Brother McRuer heard two or three officers regretting my appointment as surgeon and thereupon sent you word not to send me – I doubt not that a few would have preferred Doct. Jonesof Bangor, but all the others without exception received me very cordially and I have no doubt, vanity aside, that I should receive more vote of officers and soldiers both for the place than any physician in Bangor as I am personally acquainted with more of them any other one – I think Col. Roberts and myself perfectly understand each other. Unless you conclude to discharge me I shall strive to do my duty, and if I think my labors are not useful, I shall be quite as ready to leave as anyone
