Report of committee on petition of Trustees of Bowdoin College granting leave for a Bill, came down accepted for concurrence and the House concurred.
Petition of Selectmen of Emden that the doings of said town may be made valid, was read & referred to the committee on New Trials. Sent up for concurrence
Petition of Selectmen of Gilead for authority to build a toll Bridge was read & referred to the Committee on Turnpikes, bridges & Canals Sent up for concurrence.
Bill regulating the duties on Commissions, reported in a new draft which was adopted, was read a 3d time & passed to be engrossed. Sent up for concurrence.
Message from the Governor.
A message was received from the Governor dated 27th Jany inst [see appendix page 226] on subject of Inspection of Hops, which, referred in Senate to Messrs Churchill & Scammon with such as the House may join, came down for concurrence and the House concurred & Messrs Dunn of Poland, Pray of Lebanon & Chase of Unity were joined.
Petition of Abijah W Thayer praying to be remunerated for a loss sustained on the contract made by him with the State to do the State Printing in 1822, was read & referred to Messrs White of Monmouth, Low of South Berwick & Frost of Topsham.
Bill to incorporate the Saco Iron Works Company, was read 1st & 2nd time and Tuesday next at 10 oclock assigned for a 3d reading.
Ordered that Messrs Hammond of Elliot, Page of Hallowell and Spring of Hiram be a Committee to take into consideration what alterations, if any be necessity in the act regulating divorces - read & passed.
