this day in the Representatives Chamber, for the purpose of qualifying Joel Whitney Esquire Counsellor elect - and the House concurred.

Ordered that the Committee on Military Affairs be instructed to enquire into the expediency of so altering the act in addition to the several acts now in force to organize, govern and discipline the Militia of this State passed Feby 28 1825 as that the annual Inspection of the Militia of this State shall be on the first Tuesday of May, instead of tuesday following the second Monday of September – read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.

Agreeably to assignment the two branches met in Convention in the Representatives Chamber at 11 oclock when Joel Whitney Esquire, Counsellor elect, came in and took and subscribed the oaths and declarations required by the Constitution to qualify him to enter upon the discharge of the duties of his office.

The Committee on engrossed bills reported as truly engrossed Bill – to incorporate a society for the benefit of the Penobscot Indians – - to incorporate the Morning Star Lodge - which were severally passed to be enacted. Sent up for concurrence.

Bill to incorporate the Benevolent Society of Bowdoin College was read a 1st & 2d time and tomorrow at 10 oclock assigned for a 3d reading.

Ordered that the committee on Military affairs be instructed to enquire into the expediency of exempting the militia of this State, who shall equip themselves and perform Military duty as the law requires, form a Poll Tax. Read and passed. Sent up for concurrence.
