question was taken by yeas & nays & decided in the affirmative as follows yeas 73 nays 59 [see appendix page 311] and then the Bill was passed to be engrossed in concurrence with the Senate.

An order came from the Senate for concurrence directing the Committee on the Judiciary to inquire as to the expediceny of abolshing the punishment of death in certain cases and the House concurred.

Bill to incorporate the Portland Rifle Cadets, was read 1st & 2nd time & tomorrow at ten oclock assigned for a 3rd reading

The committee on engrossed Bills reported as Duly engrossed, An additional Resolve for opening & clearing a road from the South line of township number two Old Indian Purchase on the East side of Penobscot river to Mattanawcook Stream Resolve in favor of Ladock Bishop & eighteen others - -for the relief of Charles Hogan, Benjamin Jones & John Foster - which were severally finally passed. Sent up for concurrence.
