To all who shall see these Presents,

Greeting:

[to the left is a circle with "Seal." inside it and "Enoch Lincoln” written under it]

Know Ye, That Enoch Lincoln, our Governor, reposing special trust and confidence in the integrity, ability and discretion of Isaac G. Reed, of Waldoborough, Esquire, that nominated, and by and with the advice and consent of our Council, appointed the said Isaac G. Reed, one of the Inspectors of the State Prison, under the Act, entitled “An Act providing for the government of the State Prison, and for the punishment of Convicts”; passed the twenty fifth day of February A.D. 1824.

We therefore do hereby authorizeand empower him to fulfil [fulfill] the duties of that Office accotrding to law; and to have and to hold the same, together with all the powers, privileges and emoluments thereto of right appertaining, unto him the said Isaac G. Reed, for the term of four years, if he shall so long behave himself well in said Office, unless sooner removed by the Governor and Council for the time being.

In testimony whereof, We have caused these Letters to be made Patent, and our Seal to be hereunto affixed. Witness our Governor; at the Council Chamber in Portland, the fifth day of March, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight; and of the Independence of the United States the fifty second.
