I regret to learn indirectly from wounds of Capt. Brit-lings of Company "C" + Lieut Linscott of [ink blot] I do not pro-pose to make any recommen-dations to fill those vacancies at present. It is of such im-portence to the interests of the Regiment + the Service to have good [underlined] officers, that I wish to exercise the greatest care in recommending any to your favor.
